Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has revealed that Gabriel Jesus was his major real test when he moved to the Premier League.
The Brazilian striker has missed the past 11 months due to an ACL injury, but he is finally fully fit again, and Mikel Arteta will hope he can return to his best.
Imagine this: You are Mikel Arteta and Arsenal receive a £30m bid in January for Gabriel Jesus. Are you accepting? 👀
How would it take for you to sell Jesus?
Jesus made his first start against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup last week, and now he is one of four strikers at Arteta’s disposal.
Yoro has now made the surprise admission about Jesus being the first major test he faced following his move from Lille to Old Trafford.
Leny Yoro thought Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus was ‘really good’
Leny Yoro believes that Gabriel Jesus is a ‘really good’ player and has just claimed that he was his first major test in English football.
The Frenchman faced Jesus in a pre-season match on July 28 in which the Gunners walked out 2-1 winners in Los Angeles.
When asked who the first Premier League player was to really challenge him on the pitch, Yoro told Barclays WSL: “My first game was Arsenal in pre-season, and Gabriel Jesus was really good.”
Jesus proved to be a real handful for United and netted the equaliser just before the 30-minute mark at the SoFi Stadium.
The 28-year-old’s time at the Emirates Stadium has been so unlucky, as every time he looks set to kick on finally, injuries have held him back.
Jesus wants to remain at Arsenal up to 2027 when his contract is due to expire, although he will need to prove he can stay fit from here until the end of the season.
Mikel Arteta must start Gabriel Jesus against Aston Villa
It’s clear that Arteta must try something new in Arsenal’s next match after Viktor Gyokeres looked so poor against Brighton.
Who should Mikel Arteta start up front for Arsenal against Aston Villa? 🤔
Gyokeres, Jesus, Merino or Havertz
That could involve starting Jesus ahead of both Mikel Merino and the Swede, while pairing him with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the wings.
Kai Havertz has been included in Arsenal’s squad against Villa, although a final decision over his involvement still needs to be made.
Gyokeres should be worried about the German’s return as it now means that he’s fallen even further down the pecking order.
