Arsenal will definitely be on the market for a new striker this summer.

The Gunners haven’t had a prolific centre-forward since Mikel Arteta banished Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Emirates a few years ago.

Arteta pleaded for a new striker in January, but the Arsenal board let him down, and that has cost them the Premier League title.

A new number nine is an absolute necessity this summer, and the North Londoners have been linked with several names already.

However, Arsenal’s dream target is Alexander Isak of Newcastle United.

Arne Slot shares what he really thinks about Arsenal target Alexander Isak

Isak is arguably the best striker in the world right now.

The Swede is having an amazing season at Newcastle United, and everyone in football expects him to be a wanted man this summer.

It is no secret that Arsenal want to sign Isak. Premier League leaders Liverpool have been linked with a move to get him too.

Now, ahead of the Carabao Cup final this weekend, Reds boss Arne Slot has heaped praise on Isak and has even compared his speed to that of PSG’s attackers who knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League – Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Slot said, as per Liverpool’s official website: “Now, looking at Newcastle, we played them twice. In the last game [Alexander] Isak wasn’t involved, in the first game he was involved.

“He is such an important player for them, he’s an unbelievable threat and has the speed that, for example, the attackers of Paris Saint-Germain had on Tuesday as well.

“They were more than I would have liked in front of Ali [Alisson Becker] during the two games we have played them.”

Arsenal’s 2022 transfer mistake could cost them big money

Isak has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time.

The Gunners had an eye on him when he was at Borussia Dortmund, and Arteta even wanted to sign him when he donned Real Sociedad’s colours.

However, Arsenal did not get a deal done for Isak in January 2022, and Newcastle snapped him up for £63 million in the very next window.

The decision to not land him in 2022 could cost Arsenal big – Isak’s price tag is set at £150 million now.

That is massive money, but Arsenal must pay that and get him in if they really want to start next season as the favourites to win the Premier League title.
