Manchester United and Arsenal have been shopping in similar markets for years and it looks like we could see them battle it out again in the summer of 2026.
The Gunners and United have spent huge sums in recent windows, with both teams having mixed success in the market.
Arsenal, clearly, have got more right than wrong given their position in the league table. United, meanwhile, have had some stinkers.

Nevertheless, with Michael Carrick now in charge, things are picking up at Old Trafford and now, they could potentially challenge Arsenal for a player Mikel Arteta likes.
Manchester United could move for Anthony Gordon after Arsenal links
It’s been widely reported that Arsenal are fans of Anthony Gordon.
The Newcastle winger has impressed in the Northeast, albeit this season Gordon hasn’t quite hit the heights many expected.
Nevertheless, interest is there and according to Ben Jacobs, Man United are also a club to watch out for when it comes to Gordon.
“We know that there’s appreciation for Yan Diomande, who’s a very versatile player, likes the kind of grandstanding at the moment, saying that’s a €100 million sale. We’ll have to wait and see whether that price drops during the summer. But as I’ve reported many times, there was never really an expectation that he was going to go anywhere in the winter window, barring a crazy offer in Tottenham could be there as well,” Jacobs revealed on The United Stand podcast.

“Manchester United really like Anthony Gordon as well as a potential option, especially knowing that the player actually relishes the chances to have more game time through the centre as a number nine as well.
“And Arsenal have been there in the past. I think Newcastle’s position, a bit like Sandro Tonali, is not for sale when they had more of a PSR problem. Gordon nearly went to Liverpool, but in the end, Newcastle were able to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.”
Why Anthony Gordon to Arsenal makes sense
There’ll be those who feel Gordon is a good signing for the Gunners and those who aren’t quite as keen.
However, in the main, you have to admit he’d be a good fit for the club. Despite all the attacking talent Arsenal have, they don’t have much in the form of direct wingers like Gordon, especially if Martinelli or Saka are missing.
Furthermore, with continued talk about Martinelli’s future, Arsenal may need to be in the market for someone who can occupy that left-hand side.
If you could say anything to respond to Liam Rosenior right now, what would it be?
Sure, the money would be big to tempt Newcastle into a sale and a lot might depend on if Gordon goes to the World Cup this summer and performs.
If he does, then he’ll be a wanted man and it’s at this point that we’ll find out if Arsenal – and United – are as keen as suggested.
