Micah Richards admits he was ‘wrong’ in new Myles Lewis-Skelly revelation

Arsenal fans were in awe of Lewis-Skelly’s performance against City and rightly so as the left-back was full of confidence, approaching the game with no fear.

After the fixture, the teenager was praised by several pundits, including Micah Richards, who waxed lyrical about Lewis-Skelly on The Rest Is Football podcast.

“It’s not just what he does defensively, it’s the fact that he gets in the pocket of space on the half-turn, and scores,” Richards said before sharing what he found ‘really interesting’ about the teen’s performance.

“It was actually really interesting because Odegaard, I was saying before the game that he needs to do more, he needs to move between the lines. He gets his goal by running on but the fact that he was still going deep.

“Lewis-Skelly was going there, we were scratching our heads thinking ‘Why do you want Lewis-Skelly in the middle of the pitch?’ I mean, he’s good on the ball but he’s not really going to create something.”

Richards went on to share why he was ‘wrong’ about the 18-year-old, applauding the left-back’s presence against the champions.

“Boy were we wrong, he is a proper, proper talent and to be in the starting XI over Calafiori, wow.”

Lewis-Skelly’s role against City embodied everything Arteta wants from his players, effortless versatility and the ability to read the game to maximise output.
