Michael Owen was one of the best young footballers of all-time.

Indeed, the striker was a World Cup hero for England at the age of 18 and a Ballon d’Or winner by the age of 21.

It’s fair to say Michael Owen knows what it means to be a breakout young star, and the England legend is now led to believe Arsenal have their own teenage talent coming through.

Owen has given some predictions ahead of the new season for the Premier League, and when asked to name who he thinks will be the Young Player of the Year, he gave an interesting answer.

Michael Owen tips Max Dowman for Young Player of the Year

Arsenal have numerous young talents shining at the moment.

Myles Lewis-Skelly has become a star over the past 12 months, while Ethan Nwaneri is a special talent too.

However, according to Owen, Max Dowman will be the Young Player of the Year in the Premier League this season.

“I’m joining the hype train really as I haven’t seen enough of him to form a strong opinion, but my sources tell me that he is a little bit special so I’ll follow that as opposed to my own eyes at the moment. We might not see him play an awful lot this season but even glimpses of his talent would be an exciting thing,” Owen said.

Youngest players to win Young Player of the Year

If Dowman is to win Young Player of the Year, he would create a bit of history this season.

Indeed, no player has ever won the Young Player of the Year award in the Premier League at the age of 18.

Interestingly, Michael Owen is the youngest player to ever win this award, doing so at the age of just 18.

Robbie Fowler1994–9519

Of course, whether or not Dowman is able to win this award remains to be seen, but based on what Owen is hearing, it could be possible.

Dowman has been brilliant in pre-season, and Mikel Arteta could give the 15-year-old a first-team chance this year.
