Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta both believe that Julian Alvarez could be the player to transform Arsenal’s attack next season.

Despite having Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz, the Gunners are still looking to sign another striker during the summer window.

Arsenal can only sign Julian Alvarez if one of Viktor Gyokeres or Kai Havertz leaves. Who would you sell?

Arsenal plan to trust Gyokeres for another season, though they seem to want another alternative to the Swede along with Havertz.

Alvarez is the player who is at the very top of Berta’s list of transfer targets, with the two key Arsenal directors in agreement over the Argentine.

Arsenal think Julian Alvarez will transform their attack

Arsenal remain very keen on signing Julian Alvarez and could move for the striker if he makes it clear that he is open to the move, according to TEAMTalk.

Real Madrid had a £130 million bid rejected for Alvarez last week, although perhaps Atletico Madrid could instead be more receptive to selling to Arsenal.

Reports from Spain this morning claimed that Arsenal had agreed a swap of cash and Gyokeres for Alvarez, but that seems rather far-fetched.

The North London club are a long-term admirer of the player and will make their move should they receive encouragement from Atletico.

Berta and Arteta appear to be obsessed with the striker and are getting themselves ready to make a move for the Argentine.

The striker came off the bench to replace Lautaro Martinez during Argentina’s 3-0 win over Algeria on Tuesday.

Julian Alvarez is becoming slightly overrated

Following Madrid’s insane bid of £130 million being turned down for the striker, it is becoming quite clear that Alvarez is being slightly overrated.

The striker managed to score just eight times in La Liga last season, which is not numbers which would significantly move the needle for the Gunners.

Meanwhile, during his spell at Man City, the 26-year-old scored just 20 times in 67 matches, again numbers which do not warrant such a price tag.

Arsenal do not want to risk upsetting the harmony of their squad and will need to add a striker who really is going to take them to the next level, rather than one who could upset Gyokeres or Havertz.
