Mikel Arteta ‘loves’ the transfer window and understands Arsenal striker links

Arsenal head into their Champions League tie at home to Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb knowing that three points would give them a huge boost in qualifying for the last-16.

Arsenal have received some positive news on the injury front and Riccardo Calafiori and Ethan Nwaneri both returned to training ahead of the clash and academy prospect Max Dowman also joined in with the open session.

Mikel Arteta also revealed William Saliba is evolving well from his injury but the Dinamo game will come a little too soon for the French defender.

Arteta was inevitably asked about the transfer window ahead of the game with just two weeks left of the window and gave an interesting response to those in attendance.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Arsenal v Dinamo Zagreb Champions League tie, Arteta was asked about the transfer window and potential incoming strikers.

Arteta stated that he ‘loves’ the transfer window and had an interesting response on the numerous striker links, he stated: “No, I understand it. People text me, ‘You after him?’ Sometimes I do not even know what they’re talking about?”

The Arsenal manager then gave a little insight on his personal involvement in the transfer window by explaining that his focus is on the team and the work they have to do to prepare for each challenge.

He stated: “I don’t follow it too much, I have enough work to do with a lot of things so I don’t get too distracted with it.”

Matheus Cunha the latest striker linked to Arsenal

Matheus Cunha is the latest striker to be linked with a move to Arsenal as contract negotiations with Wolves have reportedly stalled.

Fabrizio Romano has stated Arsenal are watching Cunha’s situation and the Brazilian striker seemed to be visibly unhappy with team mates following their defeat to Chelsea.

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has claimed Cunha has become ‘distracted’ amid uncertainty surrounding his future. Cunha has scored ten goals and claimed four assists in his 21 league appearances this season.

Whether Arsenal can tempt Cunha to North London remains to be seen but all eyes are on the Champions League as the Gunners attempt to secure a passage straight into the last-16.
