Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has responded to rumours suggesting Eberechi Eze was close to joining Tottenham.

Arsenal’s interest in signing Eze is well-documented, making the playmaker’s links to Spurs rather deflating.

Though Eze favours a move to the Emirates, the Palace superstar has given the Lilywhites a green light, but not everything is going to plan, it seems.

Initially, it was thought that Eze would miss Palace’s Premier League opener against Chelsea, but the 27-year-old was named in Glasner’s starting XI, with the Eagles’ boss making his thoughts clear.

Spurs’ talks with Palace about signing Eze have become difficult, which is symbolised by the player’s involvement with his club on the opening day.

It’s good news for Arsenal, who are interested in Eze, but are holding off making a move due to the desire to generate funds through sales.

Despite Spurs being in the driving seat, Arsenal fans still hold hope that the England international could arrive at the Emirates, with Glasner sharing an encouraging update.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Palace’s clash with Chelsea, Glasner urged fans not to ‘believe’ what is being reported about his players’ transfer status.

“Very good, otherwise he wouldn’t start. There’s no reason not to start him,” Glasner responded when asked about the decision to start Eze after all.

“Good advice to all the children watching, don’t believe everything you read in the newspapers.”

It’s positive news for Arsenal, as Spurs are perhaps not as close to sealing a deal as initially thought, but that doesn’t mean the Gunners are preparing to edge closer.

Arsenal could be more likely to explore a winger

It’s not only finances that have slowed Arsenal’s pace down in exploring a move for the Palace superstar.

Ethan Nwaneri’s new deal impacted Arsenal’s interest in Eze, with the understanding being that the Palace ace would be considered as an attacking midfielder.

Arsenal could be more likely to explore the market for an out-and-out winger, despite the knowledge that Eze can play the role.

It remains to be seen where Eze’s future lies, with his move to Tottenham not as close as first thought.
