Crystal Palace ‘considering’ shock Eberechi Eze twist that gives Arsenal transfer hope

Arsenal are preparing to see summer target Eberechi Eze join Tottenham as the Gunners have not made a move.

Eze wants to join Arsenal, but is likely to have to settle for Spurs as Andrea Berta has not acted in a manner that suggests the Gunners will battle their rivals for the signing.

The reason behind Arsenal’s reluctance is sales, as the board wants players ousted to balance the books before considering exploring a seventh arrival.

Crystal Palace want £68m for Eze, a fee that Spurs are close to agreeing to after getting the green light from the player, but the deal isn’t as advanced as initially understood.

Crystal Palace consider Eberechi Eze U-turn

Arsenal have alternatives to Eze to consider, but it’s clear that fans want to see the England international at the Emirates above all.

The idea of the superb playmaker joining Thomas Frank’s side is a blow for Arsenal, as ahead of Palace’s Premier League opener, the 27-year-old’s transfer appeared to be closer than ever.

Palace were set to leave Eze out of their matchday squad ahead of his proposed move, but that might not happen after all.

As the Eagles prepare to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, it’s been reported that Eze could indeed start.

The news comes after journalist Miguel Delaney reported that talks between Spurs and Palace had become ‘difficult’, with fellow reporter Gary Jacob breaking the news that the Eagles are now ‘considering’ handing Eze a start.

It’s good news for Palace, who could have their star player available for a tough opener at the Bridge, but bad news for Spurs.

Can Arsenal afford to sign Eze without sales?

Though Tottenham are still firmly in the driving seat, the stall could give Arsenal one last chance to hijack the transfer.

As understood, the Gunners are waiting to sell before considering any further signings, but that doesn’t need to be the case.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire responded to a question on X regarding whether Arsenal have the room to complete a £68m deal for Eze without making a sale.

“Easily, have huge headroom,” Maguire admitted, which prompted fans to plead for the Gunners to take Spurs to the wire in negotiations.

All eyes will be on the role Eze plays, or doesn’t play, against Chelsea, as the transfer window enters its final stages.
