A player involved in one of Arsenal’s most controversial transfers is making the headlines.

Having been Arsenal’s manager for 22 years, Arsene Wenger experienced his fair share of questionable transfers.

Wenger’s sale of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri was branded catastrophic, but there was an even more controversial sale that happened close to the end of his reign in North London.

In January 2018, Arsenal sanctioned the sale of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, receiving Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return.

Alexis Sanchez stuns Barcelona seven years after Arsenal exit

Wenger and Sanchez had their ups and downs, but nothing could take away from the quality the winger brought with him to the Emirates from Barcelona.

Signed from Barcelona in 2014, the Chilean took no time to leave Arsenal fans spellbound with his innate energy and desire to win.

Sanchez was never the same in the Premier League after leaving the Gunners, but, since leaving England, he’s found sanctuary at several clubs, the latest being Sevilla.

On deadline day, Sanchez signed for Sevilla at the age of 36, where he’s just made the headlines for scoring in his new club’s shock win over Barcelona.

The former Arsenal superstar opened the scoring in the 13th minute by scoring a penalty, with his teammate Isaac Romero doubling Sevilla’s lead in the 37th minute.

Marcus Rashford pulled one back for Barcelona before half-time, but the hosts weren’t in the mood to crumble, scoring twice in injury time to seal a stunning 4-1 win.

It was a blow for Barcelona, who have fallen behind Real Madrid in the race to win La Liga, with Sanchez responsible for his former club’s costly defeat.

Sanchez’s record at Arsenal

When it comes to punishing former clubs, the Chilean knows the ropes, infamously silencing Arsenal fans at the Emirates with his goal in Manchester United’s 3-1 FA Cup win back in 2019.

Even after the upset that Sanchez caused, there’s no denying that the winger was one of the best the Emirates has seen in an Arsenal shirt.

Sanchez left a mark on his former Arsenal teammates with how good he was, leaving North London with 125 goal contributions in just 166 appearances.

The forward scored 80 goals for Arsenal during his stay in N5, becoming one of Wenger’s most important players.

It’s a shame how things ended for the winger, who has publicly admitted that he regretted leaving Arsenal for Man United.
