Ray Parlour says ‘fantastic’ player will really ‘regret’ it if he joins Arsenal now

Arsenal are working hard to sign multiple players this summer.

Andrea Berta is calling the shots behind the scenes at the Emirates, and fans are hopeful that his experience and connections will help take the Gunners to the next level.

A deal for Martin Zubimendi is all but done, while a new striker and a winger are the other areas of the pitch that need upgrading.

On top of that, Arsenal need a second-choice goalkeeper, and they have been linked with one very interesting name.

Ray Parlour explains why Kepa Arrizabalaga will ‘regret’ it if he joins Arsenal

Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.

The Gunners’ dream of signing Joan Garcia seems to have been crushed now as the Spanish keeper is set to join Barcelona in the coming days.

Mikel Arteta will need someone else to come in as a backup to David Raya, and Kepa, who has been hailed as ‘fantastic’, could prove to be a bargain option.

The Spaniard will be available for just £5 million this summer thanks to a release clause in his contract, and that makes him a very attractive solution.

However, Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes the Chelsea star will be making a mistake if he joins the Gunners ahead of the start of next season.

He said on talkSPORT: “It’s all on if he wants to play. He’s not going to play at Arsenal, is he? He’s going to be the No.2, but do you want to be No.2? He’s obviously been No.1 at Bournemouth now.

“If you’re Arsenal, you want to buy him because he’s a great No.2 to have. But if you’re Kepa, you want to play unless you’re happy to sit on the bench.

“If I was a keeper, I’d want to play at his age, 30, because you’ll regret it when you finish.”

The one problem Arsenal could have if they sign Kepa

As a backup and for just £5 million, Kepa would be a no-brainer for Arsenal.

The Spaniard is experienced at the top level, is good with his feet and has the ability to fill in for David Raya whenever he is called upon.

But, since Kepa, who is 30 already, will know coming in that he will never be the first choice, he may not be motivated enough to push Raya all the way.

That could lead to the Arsenal No. 1 becoming complacent because he will be certain that nobody’s replacing him for the years to come.

That could be a problem for Arsenal, which is why a younger goalkeeper with big ambitions, like Garcia, would be more ideal.
