A round-up of the latest Arsenal news including Euro 2024 final reaction, transfer updates on a deal for a young goalkeeper, and rumours of an attacker from La Liga.

Arsenal agree deal with Ajax for Tommy Setford

It had been widely reported last week that Edu Gaspar had a ‘hostile’ £50,000 bid for Dan Bentley rebuffed last week in the search for back-up on the goalkeeping front for the first team. That move looks unlikely at the moment, but the 31-year-old is an entirely different profile to the latest target.

Southampton have now entered the race to sign Ramsdale with Arsenal likely to let him go should a feasible deal arise.

However, the Gunners are looking for reinforcements in a young addition to the Inaki Cana department with the pre-season tour looming.

A Spanish goalkeeper had been linked under Cana’s recommendation, but David Ornstein gave an update on the pursuit of an alternative from Ajax in Tommy Setford.

Transfer expert David Ornstein, reporting on X, has now claimed that: “Arsenal strike agreement with Ajax to sign goalkeeper Tommy Setford. Fee for 18yo Ajax talent & England youth international around €1m + add-ons. Highly-rated prospect expected to join on initial 4yr contract to bolster [Arsenal’s] ranks.”

Arsenal eyeing move for ex-Chelsea forward

In a move that could emulate what Mikel Arteta has done with Kai Havertz, he is reportedly targeting another former Chelsea attacker.

The club have been fond of buying from Chelsea in recent years with David Luiz and Jorginho notable successful additions. Willian did have an Emirates Stadium stint too.

According to Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Arsenal are now interested in signing Joao Felix, who is at a bit of a cross-roads in his career.

He has been told he is free to leave Atletico Madrid, having just spent a season on loan at Barcelona.

Although his contract in La Liga lasts until 2029, those in charge at the club would prefer it if he left. Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery has also expressed interest in taking the 24-year-old to Aston Villa.

Declan Rice’s harsh Euro 2024 final verdict

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice started for England in the 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

For the second European Championships in succession, they lost out at the final stage, while David Raya and Spain hoisted the trophy.

Rice will have been principally concerned with the threat of Rodri before the game. His half-time substitution could’ve been a pivotal moment in switching the impetus of the game. However, long-term Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi was more than up to his duties.

The 25-year-old came under fire from the English media earlier in this tournament, and the reaction to his performance in last night’s game won’t lend to kind plaudits if the reaction on X is anything to go by.

One supporter said: “Declan Rice, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker were so so so poor. I don’t want to hear the ‘we were unlikely’ Englands ‘best’ let them down.”

Another stated: “Declan Rice is the most overrated footballer in the world, by a huge margin too. Allergic to passing forward.”
