Arsenal fans often debate who is the greatest player to have worn the famous red and white shirt.

Fans of an older generation will talk about the likes of Liam Brady and Charlie George, before moving on to an era of Tony Adams and Ian Wright.

Arsene Wenger produced sides full of Arsenal legends and had untold success in winning multiple Premier League titles and FA Cup medals.

However, Rio Ferdinand has just claimed that one Arsenal player in particular is not only the greatest in the club’s history, but the greatest player to ever grace the top division in England.

Rio Ferdinand names Thierry Henry as Premier League’s greatest player

Speaking to ESPN FC, the former Manchester United and England defender has named Thierry Henry as his pick for the Premier League’s greatest ever player.

Henry used to keep Ferdinand awake at night during their famous battles as Arsenal and Manchester United regularly went head to head for the title.

When asked who was his Premier League ‘GOAT’, Ferdinand stated: “Thierry Henry probably. Aura, ability, goals, different stuff, speed – he had everything.”

Sol Campbell claimed Henry was the most ‘skilful’ player he ever played with and the French star was arguably the best player on the planet at his peak.

Henry is Arsenal’s all-time leading goalscorer and also made his mark on the international stage having won the World Cup and European Championships with France.

Thierry Henry’s greatest Arsenal moments

You could sit all day and talk about Henry’s great moments in an Arsenal shirt, he will often say that despite all of his success the 2006 Champions League final still haunts him.

The forward missed several opportunities to put the Gunners 2-0 ahead and went on to lose the final 2-1 to Barcelona.

However, fans will choose to remember moments such as his goal in the North London Derby in 2002, where he picked the ball up and ran the whole length of the pitch before calmly placing it in the corner.

Perhaps the most emotional moment for fans was Henry scoring on his return to the club in 2012, scoring the winning goal against Leeds United.

Henry signed on loan from New York Red Bulls to criticism and doubts over his ability to still produce at the top level.

Within ten minutes of coming on, a trademark Henry finish graced the Emirates turf and the biggest lesson in football was once again taught – never doubt the ability of Thierry Henry.
