Five games into the Premier League season, Theo Walcott has tweaked his prediction about Arsenal’s finishing position.

It’s far too early to be talking about the Premier League title race, but Liverpool have certainly set the pace.

Arne Slot’s champions have started the season with five wins from five, securing a maximum points tally despite not looking anywhere near their best.

At Arsenal, Mikel Arteta will be focused solely on his own team, with improvements to be made after dropping points to Liverpool and Manchester City.

Theo Walcott changes where he thinks Arsenal will finish in the Premier League this season

No matter how much managers try to divert attention away from the title race, it’s a narrative that’s commented on week after week.

Even players have gotten involved, with Mohamed Salah explaining why Arsenal are title favourites.

Former players have also chimed in, with Theo Walcott now addressing his prediction just five games into the campaign.

Walcott thinks Arsenal can win the Champions League, but initially predicted that the Gunners would finish third in the Premier League table.

Speaking on The Overlap US after Arsenal’s draw against Manchester City, Walcott amended his prediction.

“I put Arsenal third, didn’t I?” Walcott asked host Rebecca Lowe.

Lowe acknowledged that Walcott’s prediction was delivered before the transfer window closed, prompting her to ask the ex-Arsenal winger if his prediction had changed.

Walcott dismissed that Arsenal could finish first, saying, “No, I’ll put them second.”

In the former Gunners’ eyes, Arteta’s side still haven’t done enough to suggest that they could usurp Liverpool in the title race.

Arsenal’s next five Premier League fixtures are decisive

A few years ago, the idea of Arsenal collecting ten points against Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United would have been seen as a triumph. 

The fact that it’s not only shows the level of standard Arteta has implemented at the Emirates over the past few seasons.

Fortunately, Arsenal’s fixture list is about to ease up in difficulty ever so slightly.

After facing one of the hardest games of the season at St James’ Park, Arsenal’s next four league games come against West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Burnley.

It’s integral that the Gunners secure maximum points after an incredibly tough start to the campaign.
