Viktor Gyokeres has been brought to Arsenal to score the goals needed to end their major trophy drought.
Mikel Arteta is under pressure to deliver a trophy this season having not won anything since the FA Cup triumph back in 2020.
It is three consecutive second place finishes in the Premier League for his side and despite going deep into the Champions League in the last two seasons, silverware is now being demanded.
Arsenal have made obvious progress under Arteta since he took over in 2019 and former Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard has revealed how Gyokeres can make a real ‘difference’ for his new side.

Tim Howard says Arsenal can win the league if Viktor Gyokeres scores 20 goals
Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Unfiltered Soccer’ podcast, Howard has stated his belief that the Gunners can win the league this season if their new striker scores 20 goals.
When asked by Landon Donovan whether Gyokeres can be the difference to Arsenal overcoming Liverpool, Howard stated: “Yeah. Yeah, I think he does. I think he does.”
The USA international was then asked by Donovan what it would take for Gyokeres to make Arsenal champions, Howard responded with: “I think if he can get, I think if he can get 20, 22 goals, they could win. Yeah.”
Theo Walcott thinks Gyokeres reminds him of Wayne Rooney in terms of his powerful physique and stature and Arsenal will be hoping he can use that strength to good effect.
Arteta’s side were crying out for a natural finisher to be in and around the box last season and they will now be hoping the 27-year-old is the missing piece to getting over the line to success.
Premier League title winners need a natural goal scorer
Ally McCoist has backed Gyokeres to score more goals than rival signings Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro this season.
If Arsenal are to win the league this season, they will need the Swede to fire, given that past title winners have always had a natural goal scorer in their ranks.
| Premier League title winners | Year | Top goalscorer | Amount |
| Liverpool | 2025 | Mohamed Salah | 29 |
| Manchester City | 2024 | Erling Haaland | 27 |
| Manchester City | 2023 | Erling Haaland | 36 |
| Manchester City | 2022 | Kevin De Bruyne | 15 |
The last time Arsenal won the league in 2004, Thierry Henry scored 30 goals that season. Last campaign, the Gunners’ top scorer was Kai Havertz with nine.
Goals change games and earn vital points throughout the season, Arteta will now be hoping he has his clinical marksman to do just that.
