Being a former professional, Troy Deeney knows more about Declan Rice than Arsenal fans.

The now-pundit was talking about Rice, with the Arsenal star a topic of conversation everywhere this season.

Rice just keeps getting better and better at Arsenal, proving he was the perfect match for Mikel Arteta.

Since his 2023 transfer, the midfielder has gone from a top player to a world-class one, but there’s something Rice does away from the action that is just as admirable.

Troy Deeney says Declan Rice does a lot of good behind closed doors

Deeney was speaking about Rice on The Football Exchange podcast. 

While Rice earns so much praise for his footballing ability, it was his work away from the pitch that Deeney was eager to share.

“You know, Declan does a lot of things behind closed doors that people won’t hear about because he wants to impact certain things,” Deeney said, alluding to Rice’s charity and support work.

Deeney continued to praise Rice, not only for his generosity, but how he goes about giving back to others.

“He doesn’t want people asking him ‘how much did you give?’ or ‘what did you give?’ or any of those things. He just wants to do it.

“The problem is now when the PR and the off-pitch stuff is leading the on-pitch stuff when that is the focus.”

Deeney’s admission was a heartwarming one, but it also comes as no surprise, as Rice is one of the most well-liked footballers in the Premier League.

Tony Adams is desperate for Rice to become Arsenal captain, with the 26-year-old having all the qualities to be a leader. 

Aside from leading by example on the pitch, the Englishman carries himself superbly off it, which has been recognised by many.

Glenn Hoddle just called Rice a ‘great example for children’, praise that came soon after Rio Ferdinand dubbed the Arsenal star a ‘leader of today’s generation’.

It’s not just in midfield that the Gunners realise how lucky they are to have Rice, but in non-footballing aspects too.
