Arsenal transfer target Nico Williams has been lavished with praise following an impressive display for Athletic Bilbao in their recent outing with Real Valladolid.

The winger has faced a difficult campaign so far as he looks to find some consistency following a long summer that included a European Championships victory.

It’s the top performances that have seen Arsenal linked with a transfer for Nico Williams, who has a release clause in his deal at Athletic Bilbao.

With the Gunners on the search for another forward option, on top of a striker, the 22-year-old has shown why a switch to the Emirates Stadium may be the best move possible.

Nico Williams impresses for Athletic Bilbao against Real Valladolid

While Arsenal scour the market for another winger to add to their squad, Nico Williams has possibly shown exactly why he is the perfect option.

The Spanish international has struggled at times this season, with a recent absence from the squad seeing him return to some form.

An assist against Espanyol in a short cameo return kickstarted a run that followed into the clash with Real Valladolid.

Williams scored twice and assisted once in a 7-1 thrashing of Real Valladolid – which included Arsenal loanee Karl Hein in goal.

During which, the winger hit the “calma” celebration, once done by Cristiano Ronaldo, showing he is firmly back to his best.

The Spanish media were left impressed, with Deia awarding him Player of the Match, stating: “He regained his starting position in a match in which he rediscovered his best form, the one that makes him a practically unstoppable footballer.

“He was seen to be lively from the start, always a threat to Valladolid’s defence. He assisted Jauregizar to open the scoring and scored two very good goals.

“In the first half he left several rivals behind and finished smoothly; the second was more explosive, with a first cut and a goal that hit the far post.”

Williams will now be looking to end the season in the type of form that has seen him in the conversation for one of the best wingers out there.

Arsenal face Nico Williams transfer call

While Arsenal missed out on a possible transfer for Williams in January, a release clause in his deal makes a deal available.

That is so long as the player is open to a switch, which is seeming increasingly likely over the coming months ahead.

There have been concerns over a drop in form over the campaign so far, with his output declining along with general struggles.

However, Williams has shown he is more than capable of having that quality, regardless of form and could make an ideal addition to the squad.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make a move, with a striker being the priority, but the winger track is being followed closely too.
