Arsenal’s search for a striker is set to come to an end this summer.

Mikel Arteta has been desperate for a prolific number nine all campaign with Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino performing admirably in the role but not natural centre forwards.

Arsenal face competition to sign Benjamin Sesko, a player the club tried to reach an agreement with in January before RB Leipzig blocked any potential transfer.

Reports in the Portuguese media claim Arsenal have reached an ‘agreement’ for Viktor Gyokeres and the Swedish international has finally broken his silence on his future.

Viktor Gyokeres breaks silence on his future

As per The Mirror, Gyokeres has been speaking to Portuguese TV channel SIC Noticias about his future ahead of Sporting Lisbon’s upcoming cup final clash with Benfica.

When asked about a potential summer move, Gyokeres stated: “We’ll see. It’s the future. Football is like that, you never know what’s going to happen. And it’s the same thing now. We’ll see what the future holds.”

Arsenal fans are convinced Gyokeres is set to join after rivals for his signature Manchester United lost the Europa League final, meaning they have no Champions League football next season.

Now, Gyokeres has refused to rule out a summer move but will be focussing on winning another trophy with his current club before any decision is made.

Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko? Arsenal are taking a risk with either

There is no doubting the ability of both Gyokeres and Sesko and either player would add significant strength to Arsenal’s attack next season.

However, neither player has played a minute of Premier League football and Arteta will have reservations over the strikers coming in and taking their time to adapt.

The Gunners need trophies next season and cannot afford to carry players during any ‘adaptation’ period – especially in such a crucial area as centre forward.

Ollie Watkins was pursued in January and the club may feel that they want to go down the route still of Premier League proven quality in front of goal.
