Wayne Rooney has made a shock call by naming Arsenal as the best team in the Champions League this season.
The Gunners are one of three teams, alongside Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, to still have a perfect record in the competition this term.

On Wednesday evening, Mikel Arteta’s team have the chance to produce a real statement win in the Champions League when they face Bayern Munich.
Ahead of the match, Rooney has been assessing the North London club’s chances of going all the way in the competition this season.

Wayne Rooney believes that Arsenal would beat Paris Saint-Germain and has picked them as the best team in the Champions League.
Last season, Arteta’s side were eliminated from the Champions League at the hands of the eventual winners, as they lost 3-0 on aggregate.
However, this time around Rooney is backing the North London club to beat them if they are to meet again.

Speaking to Mail Sport, Rooney said: “I think they’ve got the best chance they’ve had for a long time. I think the whole squad they’ve put together. Good players, they’re even starting good players on the bench.
“They’ve got good players to come in if they have injuries, so yeah, I think their recruitment has been really good, and they’ve been really strong in the Premier League.
“If they can take that form into the Champions League, then I think they will have a good chance.”
Arsenal’s squad depth looks so strong this season and could be the biggest factor in helping them end their wait for silverware.
A great example is Eberechi Eze coming into the number ten role whilst Martin Odegaard is sidelined with an injury, and the England international has been outstanding.

The experienced Manuel Neuer still gets the nod ahead of David Raya at this stage, while Arsenal’s two centre-backs are undoubtedly the pick in defence.
Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber are both exceptional; however, Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich have more experience at the top level.
Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi form a brilliant partnership in midfield, but the in-form Michael Olise is still the best number ten ahead of Eze and Odegaard.
The attack is fairly straightforward, with Harry Kane and Luis Diaz joining Bukayo Saka in the team.
