Arsenal’s new-found rivalry with Manchester City continues to prompt spats between various people in the media.

The Gunners have finished one place behind the Citizens in the Premier League in each of the last two seasons.

However, Mikel Arteta’s team currently sit nine points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men, and appear to have finally surpassed the north-west outfit.

Arsenal thrashed City 5-1 at the Emirates last week in a feisty affair that increased the tension between the two clubs.

Alan Smith responds to Alfie Haaland’s Arsenal dig

At the end of September’s clash between City and Arsenal at the Etihad, Erling Haaland told Mikel Arteta to ‘stay humble’.

This single comment has sparked a heated rivalry between the two clubs, with Arsenal fans taunting Haaland with chants referencing his words to the Gunners’ boss in the latter stages of last weekend’s showdown in N5.

Haaland’s dad hit back at the Gunners faithful after the game, replying to an Arsenal post on X with: “«This Team» that wins everything. Ehhhhh, not.”

This bizarre response, that hinted that Arteta’s players shouldn’t celebrate the victory because they’ve not won silverware in recent years, inevitably sent the Arsenal world into a frenzy.

Former Gunners striker and now commentator Alan Smith has now chimed in on Alfie Haaland’s outburst, stating: “You didn’t win much… back in your box. You can’t live you life through your son.”

Smith’s response will no doubt delight Arsenal fans, who feel like they’re battling against the world with the media storm that they encounter on a weekly basis.

Arsenal have finally overcome Manchester City

While the media narratives continue to deflect from Arsenal’s success and focus on minor insignificant details such as celebrations, Arteta’s team should be basking in the glory of finally overcoming Manchester City.

They’re now unbeaten in five games against City, and the extremity of the result at the Emirates last week represents a true changing of the guard.

The Gunners have City’s number, and the fanbase should be beaming with pride about their team’s performance.

They remain six points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, but they’re firmly ahead of the Manchester side and will likely end the season well above them.

With the rivalry heating up, Arsenal are evidently well on top.
