Arsenal show interest in Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen
According to journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal are among several Premier League clubs interested in Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen.
As per the Athletic, the Gunners are one of many clubs to have met with Huijsen’s representatives over a summer move with the south coast club keen for a quick resolution on his future.
Huijsen has impressed in his 25 appearances for Bournemouth so far this season having scored twice but caught the eye with his composed yet decisive defending.
Neill Blake, Bournemouth’s chief executive was delighted with the ‘exciting’ acquisition of Huijsen just last summer as per BBC Sport but face losing the player after just one season in England.
The Gunners are said to be eyeing another defensive acquisition this summer under Berta and the defender, who won his first Spain cap last month, could be at the top of the list.
Jakub Kiwior’s future impacted by Arsenal interest in Huijsen
Jakub Kiwior was praised by his team mates following Arsenal’s victory over Real Madrid with Declan Rice labelling the Polish defender a ‘monster’.
Kiwior is set to replace Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of Arsenal’s defence for the remainder of the season following the Brazilian’s hamstring injury.
However, his future at the club beyond this season is in doubt, especially with interest in Huijsen. Arteta blocked a Kiwior approach from Juventus in January but he could be set to depart this summer.
| Key statistics this season (2024-25) | Jakub Kiwior | Dean Huijsen |
| Age | 24 | 19 |
| Progressive carries | 0.73 | 1.49 |
| Progressive passes | 3.09 | 4.42 |
| Tackles won | 3 | 21 |
| Aerial duels won | 45.5% | 60.6% |
Huijsen has impressed with his ability to carry and play the ball out of the back line this season, whilst also having the upper hand on Kiwior in ground and aerial duels.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal firm up their interest in the Spaniard but in Kiwior, they have a player ready to give his all for the club until the end of the campaign.
