Arsenal should target this Manchester United weakness in Premier League clash – one Gunners star will be key

Arsenal are looking to continue their fine run of Premier League form against Manchester United as they head to Old Trafford.

A solitary goal from Leandro Trossard gave Mikel Arteta’s side victory at Old Trafford last season and they have already beaten them 2-0 in the Premier League this season.

Arteta has an incredible record against Manchester United and will be hoping to secure a further three points in the quest to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Arsene Wenger once fumed at Ruud Van Nistelrooy in a classic encounter back in 2003 and Arteta would be wise to look at recent history when preparing his side for the upcoming clash.

Arsenal’s set pieces destroyed Manchester United in December 2024

As mentioned, the Gunners have already enjoyed success over the Red Devils in the league this season with goals coming from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba.

That evening at the Emirates Stadium, United could not handle the ferocity and precision of Arsenal from set pieces and it would be wise for Arteta’s side to test that area once again.

Despite having decent players in the air such as Mattijs De Ligt and Harry Maguire, Arsenal’s movement and quality from the dead ball situations caused two goals on the evening but it could have been five easily.

With injuries to the front line, set pieces may prove to be Arsenal’s best attacking weapon come the visit to Old Trafford and they already have the blueprint from their previous success.

Declan Rice’s set piece delivery will be key for Arsenal

Declan Rice played a key role in the 2-0 victory back in December and he will need to be at his best once again if the Gunners are to repeat their win.

Rice explained his set piece secret following the win over United and whilst assists from corner have dried up in recent weeks, this seems like the perfect time to rediscover that devastating weapon.

It was his wicked in-swinging deliveries that caused carnage amongst the United back line and eventually found Timber for the opening goal in that encounter,

With the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Mikel Merino expected to start for Arsenal, Rice will have plenty of targets to aim for in the air and will most likely be the best avenue for the Gunners to find the back of the net.
