The Arsenal squad is facing the possibility of a real shake-up in the summer and winter transfer windows coming up.

Changes have already been made behind the scenes as Andrea Berta is set to become the next sporting director at the club.

While his arrival is expected imminently, plans are being put into place for what the next few transfer windows could look like for Arsenal.

Many have their eyes fixated on which players could come into the squad to get a Premier League title challenge over the line.

However, having to balance that out are some possible exits to help create the space for incoming stars.

Takehiro Tomiyasu faces brutal Arsenal transfer exit decision

It’s fair to say that the past two years haven’t quite gone as Takehiro Tomiyasu would’ve hoped for at Arsenal.

The defender has suffered injury problems over the time period, which has seen him in and out of the side.

With just a couple of appearances to his name, Tomiyasu is out for the season after knee surgery, coming as a huge blow.

The 26-year-old faces a spell on the sidelines, one that may see him out until the end of the current calendar year.

That could make a transfer switch difficult for the versatile defender, which may need to be on the cards for a few reasons.

One of those is due to Japan’s recent qualification for the 2026 World Cup, meaning his nation will be represented in North America next summer.

With competition for places fierce, Tomiyasu will need game time to get back up to speed and earn a place in the squad.

That’s where his next problem arises, with both Jurrien Timber and Ben White seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order.

As a result, a transfer exit in the months ahead may be the best, albeit brutal, decision for him to make to feature on the world stage yet again.

Mikel Arteta has been full of praise for Takehiro Tomiyasu in the past

At one point, Tomiyasu was the exact type of solid defender that Mikel Arteta needed within his backline.

Whether it was on the right, left or even the rare appearance in the centre of the backline, the Japanese international was a key option.

His impact on the dressing room was clear in 2023 when Arteta said: “Tomi [Tomiyasu] is a player that everybody loves in there.

“He’s always the first [in training] and he’s always the last out. You tell him to do something and he will give his life for it.

“He’s an exceptionally professional player who gives us versatility and qualities that nobody else has in the squad. For me, he’s a really important player.”

It’s a shame that a player that important hasn’t been fit enough over the course of the season, though he still has his peak years ahead of him.
