Fabio Vieira could now earn Premier League chance away from Arsenal after what one club have just done

It’s thought that Fabio Vieira’s chances of reviving his Arsenal career are slim, but his time in England might not be up just yet.

Mikel Arteta signed Vieira from Porto in 2022, seeing Arsenal pay £34m for his services.

Catching the Gunners’ attention after showing incredible playmaking form in Portugal, it was hoped that the 25-year-old would be another attacking midfielder ready to make an impact.

Instead, Vieira’s lack of physicality has proven to be a problem, as it became abundantly clear that a lot of work is needed before the former Portugal U21 international can be trusted in Arteta’s system.

Such led Vieira to return to Porto on loan for the 2024/25 campaign after failing to secure consistent minutes at the Emirates, which to some, signals the beginning of the end of the Portuguese ace in N5.

Jorge Mendes could have a plan for Fabio Vieira

Vieira impressed on loan at Porto and will return to Arsenal procedurally at the expiration of his temporary contract with his former club.

Though it’s understood that Arteta doesn’t have Vieira in his future plans, that might not symbolise the end of the road for the key creator in England.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, change is happening that could have the capacity to impact the Arsenal midfielder, whose future is in limbo.

In the West Midlands, Wolves are undergoing a restructuring in the recruitment department, which sees super agent Jorge Mendes take back on a role at Molineux.

Mendes delivered a host of Portuguese players to Wolves during his first spell working alongside the club, and will be expected to do the same this time around.

So, where do Arsenal come into this?

Vieira is a client of Gestifute, the renowned agency founded by, you guessed it, Mendes.

As the 25-year-old prepares to return to Colney, Mendes will certainly be assessing his client’s options, and one of which might be Wolves.

There are no concrete links between the Old Gold and the Arsenal playmaker, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of Mendes seeking an opportunity for his player.

Premier League loan is much-needed for Vieira

Interestingly, Wolves are on the prowl for a new number ten following Arsenal target Matheus Cunha’s transfer to Manchester United.

Vieira certainly fits the profile of the player that Vitor Pereira needs to replenish his squad, which could prompt Mendes to explore a deal.

For Arsenal, it would be good news, as if things are to work for the midfielder in N5, he must first show that he’s ready and capable of playing in the English top-flight.

Vieira has two years remaining on his Arsenal contract, giving sporting director Andrea Berta a decision to make on his future: whether to cut him loose or grant him another loan away from the Emirates.

With Martin Odegaard Arteta’s favoured number ten and the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman coming through, it’s unlikely that there will be any room for Vieira to sufficiently express himself.

Will Mendes see a gap in the market for his client? Only time will tell, but a move to a Premier League club, where he’d likely be the protagonist, could revive Vieira’s career in England.
