Arsenal are closing in on securing the long-term future of Ethan Nwaneri.

After months of speculation over his future, Nwaneri now looks set to pen a new four-year deal at the club after talks with Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta.

Borussia Dortmund were interested in Nwaneri and offered him the same career route as Jude Bellingham but the Hale End star is committed to the Gunners.

Nwaneri has been told that he will play in a more central role for Arsenal next season after initially beginning his career on the right flank. Multiple factors could mean that another player will find himself in a new role next season too.

Kai Havertz will change position following Viktor Gyokeres arrival

Kai Havertz is set to join Nwaneri in a position change next season with the pending arrival of Viktor Gyokeres.

Jamie Carragher has backed Havertz to keep his place but his versatility and intelligence suggests that he will drop deeper in Arteta’s side.

Arteta likes his advanced midfielders to get into the box for crosses from wide areas and with Havertz’s physical stature and ability in the air, he is well suited to that role.

Should the Gunners fail to sign another winger on top of Noni Madueke, Havertz could even be used as a back-up on the flanks with his ability to find a killer pass and an unbelievable work ethic.

A striker may be on the way to North London but that does not diminish the importance of the German, who is set to play a key role in the Gunners’ quest for success next season.

How Kai Havertz has fared in different positions in his career

Havertz began his career at Bayer Leverkusen playing as a number ten and has since transformed into a centre forward at the Gunners.

He has also played in a deeper number eight role under Arteta but struggled to adapt to the change at the beginning of his career in North London.

As Gyokeres adapts to the Premier League it would be no surprise to see Havertz begin the season in the centre forward position before moving back to a new role.

Havertz is looking fit and ready for the new season and the 26-year-old could be set for his best season at the Gunners yet.
