Change could happen in the Arsenal squad in the January transfer window, as David Ornstein has revealed.
It’s understood that Arsenal won’t sign any players in January, but there could be movement regarding potential exits.
For some time, it’s been speculated that Ethan Nwaneri could leave Arsenal on loan, but the teenager has shown some reluctance.
It was believed that Nwaneri wanted to stay at Arsenal for experience; however, his lack of minutes is concerning, prompting other clubs to take a look at his situation.
David Ornstein revealed that Marseille want to sign Nwaneri on loan, a move that would be good for the player, but one that might sound alarm bells for one of the teenager’s teammates.
Fill in the blank: Mikel Arteta’s decision to loan Ethan Nwaneri to Marseille is _________
Leandro Trossard might warn Ethan Nwaneri about Roberto De Zerbi amid Marseille talks
At Marseille, Nwaneri could work under a top coach in the form of Roberto De Zerbi, a manager that Leandro Trossard knows very well.
Before signing for Arsenal, Trossard played under De Zerbi at Brighton, which is why the Belgian might have some concerns about Nwaneri’s potential move.
Trossard and De Zerbi fell out at Brighton, leading to the winger’s transfer to Arsenal.
De Zerbi axed the 31-year-old from matchday squads before his exit, and went public with his dissatisfaction about Trossard’s behaviour.
“He left the session without saying anything to me. And it’s not good. I spoke with him, and I explained this attitude [and] behaviour, I don’t like,” De Zerbi said at the time.
“I am open with him to take a step back and listen to him, but he has to understand me; I want only players who work hard and play for the team 100 per cent.”

It didn’t take long for Trossard’s representatives to respond, as his agent also went public with a response to De Zerbi.
“The manager told Leandro that he had to train separately. Last Monday, the manager humiliated Leandro in group and indicated that he no longer wanted to see him,” Trossard’s agent said.
“A manager who has not communicated directly with his player for four weeks is really incomprehensible. Incidentally, it is also the manager who has indicated several times that a transfer is the most convenient solution.”
There was bad blood between the Italian coach and the Arsenal star, which Trossard might be wary of amid Nwaneri’s possible move to work with De Zerbi.
Mikel Arteta is already seeing the benefits of sending Nwaneri to work with De Zerbi
Trossard might have reservations, but his current manager doesn’t appear to.
Fill in the blank: In January, Arsenal should _______________ Ethan Nwaneri!
In The Athletic’s report about Marseille’s talks to sign Nwaneri on loan, it was revealed that Mikel Arteta has already spoken to De Zerbi about the proposed move.
The talks are understood to have been ‘positive’ thus far, so much so that De Zerbi’s style of play is why Arsenal are more open to sending Nwaneri to Marseille than to a fellow Premier League side.
The news might’ve just broken, but it’s not going to take long to learn what Nwaneri will do, as The Athletic expect a decision to be made shortly.
