Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal signing quietly had his worst game of the season against Tottenham

Despite Arsenal’s emphatic 4-1 win over Tottenham, David Raya produced arguably his poorest display of the season so far.

Eberechi Eze netted a stunning hat-trick to help secure three points against Tottenham to move the Gunners six clear at the top of the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta’s team are now in firm control of the Premier League title race, especially after Manchester City and Liverpool both lost.

However, for Raya, it was a mixed afternoon, as despite the Spaniard being on the winning team, he produced a rather questionable display.

David Raya had possibly his poorest Arsenal game of the season vs Tottenham

In the midst of all the pandemonium of thrashing Tottenham, it might have gone under the radar that David Raya had arguably his worst Arsenal game of the season.

The Spanish goalkeeper found himself in no man’s land for Richarlison’s goal as he was lobbed from range to lose the Gunners’ clean sheet.

There was also a moment in the second half when he lobbed the ball to a Spurs player during a moment in which calm heads were required.

For the majority of the 90 minutes, Raya didn’t have a lot to do, so it would have been rather frustrating for Arteta that his team conceded the longest-range strike of the Premier League season.

Raya also cost Arsenal a goal and two points away at Sunderland just before the international break, following his stoppage-time error at the Stadium of Light.

Generally, Raya has been brilliant for Arteta’s team, but there are just some moments where he isn’t quite as dependable as the back four.

Back after the 1-1 draw against Manchester City, Gary Neville said he’d never pick Raya over Gianluigi Donnarumma or Alisson, and he’s probably now right.

It’s quite interesting to recall the summer transfer window and Arsenal’s pursuit of Joan Garcia, who eventually signed for Barcelona.

The 30-year-old can probably count himself lucky that Garcia is now at the Camp Nou, as Arteta may well have gone back in for him.

But whilst Raya might have seemed slightly shaky in between the sticks, Arsenal’s back line looked as strong as ever, with Piero Hincapie appearing to be a top addition for the Gunners.

Hincapie was excellent against Tottenham as the defender completed five recoveries, four clearances and won all three of his ground duels.

Following Gabriel Magalhaes’ groin injury, there was concern about how Arteta would deal without the Brazilian defender.

However, with Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera, Arsenal appear to be in safe hands with their two defensive replacements.
