Three winners and losers from Yoane Wissa to Arsenal transfer with Nwaneri blow and Havertz boost

Arsenal’s interest in a forward in the transfer market has seen them linked with a move for Brentford star Yoane Wissa.

The DR Congo international has been a key part of the setup for the Bees since making the £8.5million switch from Lorient.

With 11 Premier League goals this season, it comes as little shock that Arsenal have been linked with a transfer for Yoane Wissa.

Mikel Arteta is looking to build his ranks up in the forward areas, following some difficult months through injuries and a loss of form.

The potential for Wissa to join Arsenal will have knock-on effects though, not least on the current players in the squad.

So with that said, here’s a look at three potential winners and losers from the transfer.

Winners from Yoane Wissa to Arsenal transfer

Kai Havertz

While Wissa could be competing with Kai Havertz for the number nine spot, the introduction of another forward option could finally give him the support he needs.

Too often the German international is the only player in the box and he can find himself isolated from others in the team.

The introduction of Wissa could see a switch to a front two, or even just as a winger closer to the forward, offering the bodies around Havertz that he currently lacks.

The former Chelsea man isn’t someone who can unlock a game with spectacular skill on his own, but rather needs those extra players around him to make it work.

Bukayo Saka

Another potential competitor in the forward ranks, Bukayo Saka could actually benefit from Wissa joining Arsenal.

The winger has struggled to get any time away from the action, with matches every three days almost certainly impacting his fitness.

With Saka now injured for a while, the move provides cover for his position while also giving him a rotation option moving forward.

That could help keep the England international fit and firing for the future.

Martin Odegaard

More forward options mean more connections for Martin Odegaard to form on the pitch for Arsenal in the future.

The captain has been an unpredictable force but adding another different profile in Wissa may only strengthen that further.

With Arsenal constantly looking to evolve and improve, the switch could get the most out of both players.

Losers from Yoane Wissa to Arsenal transfer

Ethan Nwaneri

While he is currently out of action through injury, Ethan Nwaneri is a youngster who is looking to maximise his game time to improve and develop further.

Adding another senior attacking option may only block the pathway further for the Hale End academy prospect.

Wissa blocking the path could only damage Nwaneri’s progress and stop him from reaching the heights he is capable of.

Gabriel Martinelli

Having struggled for form this season, Gabriel Martinelli could do without another forward option reducing his minutes.

Wissa’s arrival could stop the Brazilian from finding his feet once again and rediscovering the form that has him playing regularly for the team.

Leandro Trossard

Much like Martinelli, Leandro Trossard has struggled to find the kind of form that had made him such a reliable option for the side.

The stakes for the Belgian appear much higher though, with just 18 months remaining on his current contract at the club.
