Underrated £5m Arsenal transfer solves glaring weakness for Mikel Arteta that will help win the Premier League

Mikel Arteta is under pressure to deliver a major trophy next season.

Arsenal have now gone five seasons without honours with their last success coming in the 2020 FA Cup victory over Chelsea.

It takes a lot to win a Premier League title, Arsenal’s injury crisis amongst suspensions and a lack of a clinical edge all went against Arteta during the last campaign.

Gary Neville has backed Arsenal to come out on top next season and the Gunners boss has already plugged a glaring problem in his squad with the acquisition of a £5m capture.

Mikel Arteta solves Arsenal issue with Kepa Arrizabalaga signing

Arsenal are set to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga after his £5m release clause was activated by Andrea Berta to acquire the Chelsea goalkeeper.

Arrizabalaga spent the season on loan at Bournemouth and impressed for the Cherries in his 31 appearances in the league.

The Spanish international also has Champions League experience and will be an excellent addition to the Arsenal squad to deputise for David Raya when called upon.

Raya played every single Premier League match during the last campaign with Neto making just one appearance away at Girona in Europe – an unconvincing display too.

Now Arteta has genuine quality to provide competition for Raya and the ability for the Gunners’ boss to rest and rotate where he sees fit.

Premier League winners show importance of Kepa Arrizabalaga signing for Arsenal

Manchester City and Liverpool have dominated English football since Arteta took over as Arsenal manager back in 2019.

The importance of having a number two has been shown by the two title winners in recent years, none more so than in the 2023-24 campaign when Stefan Ortega made a save that prevented the Gunners from beating City to the title.

Arteta has signed a host of goalkeepers during his managerial reign at the Emirates Stadium however, he has failed to really cement a number two for Raya since Aaron Ramsdale’s departure.

There will come a time next season where Raya is struggling with injury or form and the ability to replace him with a reliable understudy cannot be underestimated.
