Why Arsenal’s failure to sign Antoine Semenyo looks worse after Gabriel Martinelli’s stats vs Wolves

During the January transfer window, Antoine Semenyo was right there for Arsenal; however, Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta both overlooked him in favour of Gabriel Martinelli.

Away at Wolves, Martinelli proved why Berta just made a huge mistake by not moving for a new winger in January, or even last summer.

TRUE or FALSE: Antoine Semenyo would have been a better signing for Arsenal than Eberechi Eze…

Semenyo was available for £65 million, but instead, the Gunners allowed the Premier League’s most in-form attacker to join Manchester City.

It was quite clear that Semenyo wanted to join Arsenal, and a deal for the winger would have been very much possible had the Gunners at least tried.

Gabriel Martinelli lost possession 21 times during Wolves vs Arsenal

Following Gabriel Martinelli’s shocking performance against Wolves, it’s clear that Arsenal should have signed Antoine Semenyo in January.

The Gunners desperately needed a world-class winger, and their lack of a lethal attacker at Molineux cost them two points.

Martinelli was a huge letdown in the Midlands for Mikel Arteta’s team, as he completed just one cross, one dribble, won four of his seven duels and lost possession a staggering 21 times.

The fact that the Brazilian completed 90 minutes highlights Arteta’s lack of options when it comes to a top-class winger.

Meanwhile, over at Manchester City, Antoine Semenyo has already produced five goals and two assists in nine appearances for the club.

The Gunners had the chance to land one of the Premier League’s best-performing attackers and a player who can play on either flank, but they turned down the opportunity.

Noni Madueke and Martinelli have proved that they are a long way from being elite, and the decision to turn down Semenyo could well come back to haunt the team.

Andrea Berta must make a new left winger his top priority

Everyone has been raving about the job Andrea Berta is doing at the Emirates Stadium, yet the Gunners have still been left short in attack.

When the transfer window opens, Berta’s priority must be on making the signing of a new left winger, who can take the team to the next level.

Semenyo quite possibly could have done that, but now the Italian director must be targeting players like Rafa Leao and Yan Diomande.
