The Argentine is one of the most exciting attackers in Europe, and Arsenal are believed to be very keen on bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.

Now, Clarke has been discussing the striker as a potential option for the Gunners following his recent performance against Spurs.

Adrian Clarke really wants Julian Alvarez at Arsenal

Adrian Clarke has admitted that he really wants Julian Alvarez at Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners tipped to make a move.

Arsenal sent scouts to watch Alvarez in action against Tottenham, and the striker impressed with a goal and assist in the Champions League tie.

The 26-year-old now has 17 goals in total this season and could be on the move from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Speaking about the striker, Clarke told Handbrake Off: “Yeah, me too, and he won’t be cheap, but he’s played in the Premier League, hasn’t he?

“Arteta, you know, knows all about him. So yeah, I think he would be a terrific signing. So yeah, he definitely excites me.”

Clarke is right, Alvarez will not be cheap and is valued at around £86 million, which is a fee the North London club seem reluctant to pay right now.

Given the fact that he has scored just one more goal than Viktor Gyokeres, the Gunners would need to decide whether he would be that much of an upgrade.

Barcelona set to rival Arsenal for Julian Alvarez

Barcelona are also in the race for Alvarez, but there will be question marks as to whether the Spanish giants would be able to afford him.

Meanwhile, Alvarez is happy living in Spain, which could give the Catalan club a key advantage over the Gunners in the summer.

Right now, Alvarez insists he is happy at Atletico Madrid, but that stance will surely change were both clubs to come in for him.

Given how good he has been since moving to Atletico, Arsenal should be pulling out all the stops to bring him to North London.
