Alan Shearer ‘without doubt’ knows who Arsenal must sign in the summer – there’s confidence

Arsenal need to sign a striker in the summer transfer window, and Alan Shearer thinks he knows the perfect player for Mikel Arteta.

There was so much hope going into the 2024/25 campaign after Arsenal missed out on back-to-back title races to Manchester City. 

Even without Man City in the picture, Arsenal are on course to finish second once again, with Liverpool leapfrogging the Gunners to run away with the Premier League title. 

A lot of Arsenal’s struggles have to do with poor recruitment in the summer and winter transfer markets, with all eyes on what the upcoming window has to offer at the Emirates.

Alan Shearer makes Victor Osimhen to Arsenal transfer claim

Some are concerned that a lack of backing from the Kroenkes could see Arteta walk, as the Arsenal manager continues to be put under absurd pressure due to squad shortages. 

It was clear what the Gunners needed in the summer transfer window but, no solutions were found, putting emphasis on what is to come.

In what could be a make-or-break summer for Arteta’s project, Stan Kroenke has money to spend, with a striker surely at the top of Arsenal’s shopping list. 

When Arsenal are being spoken about, talk of strikers is rarely far away, with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker discussing such on The Rest Is Football podcast. 

Shearer recommended one striker to Arsenal ahead of the summer window, reminding the Gunners of Victor Osimhen’s transfer situation. 

“Osimhen is there, he without doubt will score goals,” Shearer said but, quickly raised the issue that Arsenal could face in the summer.

“The problem they’ve got now is the world knows they need a centre-forward. So someone who was worth 60 or 70 [million] is now going to be worth 100, 110 [million] when Arsenal come in so they’re going to have to pay over the odds.”

The pundit’s evaluation is interesting when it comes to players such as Osimhen, who has been eyed by Arsenal in the past, with the perfect chance to acquire the Nigerian there in 2024. 

Osimhen signed for Galatasaray on loan after a falling out with Napoli, leaving many asking where Arsenal were given that the striker had netted 17 goals the season prior.

Shearer did however give Arsenal some confidence, suggesting that any club can sign any player if the money and appeal is there.

“If you’re good enough and you’re prepared to pay enough, you’ll get someone that you want,” he said.

Arsenal must keep tabs on Victor Osimhen in the summer

Osimhen is almost certain to leave Napoli in the summer despite his goalscoring prowess, which must alert Arsenal.

A report from GIVEMESPORT revealed that a release clause of €75-80m could be there for the striker, making him a bargain acquisition if the Gunners are to make a move. 

The situation is one that’s rare to come across, given that despite being unwanted in Naples, Osmihen is still performing as one of the top strikers in Europe.

In 25 appearances for Galatasaray in 2024/25, the Nigerian has 25 goal contributions, scoring 20 and assisting five to keep eyes firmly on his movements in the summer.

Shearer raised a strong point regarding Arsenal’s desire to sign a forward and Osimhen’s availability, which is surely something those in N5 have to track.
