Andrea Berta has just told £30m striker to join Arsenal and play as a backup to Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal are almost certain to sign a new striker this summer.

The Gunners have been without a prolific number nine since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s form fell off a cliff and was then banished from the side.

Mikel Arteta publicly asked for a new striker in January, but the Arsenal board did not deliver, and many feel that is the reason why they failed in the Premier League.

Arsenal cannot make the same mistake again next season, and a report has now claimed that Andrea Berta is looking to sign two strikers instead of one to solve the issue.

Arsenal make an offer to Liam Delap and make one thing clear to him

Liam Delap has had an amazing season at Ipswich Town.

The Englishman was their best player this season, and he proved to the rest of the Premier League that he belongs at that level.

Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Delap since November, and those links are intensifying now following Ipswich’s relegation.

Reports have even claimed that Delap prefers a move to Arsenal over Manchester United, which is good news for the Gunners.

Now, Football Transfers have claimed that Arsenal want to sign the English striker – not as their main forward but in addition to their top target Viktor Gyokeres.

It has been revealed that Berta has been ‘impressed’ with Delap and believes that he would be a brilliant understudy to the Swede next season.

Furthermore, the report claims that Arsenal have made an offer to Delap’s agents, outlining their plans for him if he agrees to join them.

The recruitment team, headed by Berta, have informed the Ipswich star that his demands will be met, but Arsenal have made it clear to him that he will only ‘start out as second choice should Gyokeres – or another experienced striker – be signed’.

Why convincing Liam Delap will not be easy for Arsenal

Arsenal’s interest in Delap is good to hear.

The Ipswich forward is a fantastic striker. He has all the attributes to become a star in the Premier League, and the fact that he is still only 22 means he will get even better in the coming years.

But, Arsenal will likely struggle to convince the Englishman to join the club as their backup striker.

Delap will have opportunities to become the main man at clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea if he agrees to join them this summer.

Regular game time could well be the deciding factor in his decision, as his price tag – £30 million thanks to his release clause (BBC) – is an affordable figure to every club in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen how this will play out, but if Berta can land both Gyokeres and Delap in the same window, we think Arsenal will instantly become the favourites to win the title next season.
