Arsenal have announced their third signing of the summer as Andrea Berta’s rebuild mission continues to gather pace.

Following the captures of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, the Gunners have now announced their latest signing to replace Jorginho, who departed for Flamengo earlier this summer.

Arsenal have signed Christian Norgaard from Premier League side Brentford for an initial £10m fee, which could rise to £12m.

Norgaard is confident he can make an impact at Arsenal but with Mikel Arteta’s side under real pressure to deliver a trophy this season, the supporters are making their feelings known.

Arsenal fans divided over the signing of Christian Norgaard

Thomas Frank is a big fan of Norgaard and once described him as one of the Premier League’s best holding midfield players.

At 31, he certainly possesses a wealth of experience, however, his signing has divided opinion amongst the Arsenal fan base after they took to X to voice their verdict on the signing.

One fan wrote: “Can’t help but feeling very underwhelmed here, have we improved from last season where we ultimately were not good enough to beat Liverpool and PSG?”

Another fan wrote: “OK signing but not going to win us trophies. Come on Arsenal move for a player that excites us.”

However, a large section of supporters are seeing the positives behind the signing, one fan wrote: “Underrated Signing tbh. He’s an excellent addition to the team. Well done Arsenal.”

Another fan reacted with: “Good player with great interceptions and distributions, specially built for Arteta’s Arsenal football.”

Christian Norgaard provides Arsenal with depth needed to win a trophy

Winning trophies is not just about having a strong starting eleven as Arteta and his side found out last campaign.

Arsenal’s injury crisis last season was a huge factor behind them falling short in their quest for silverware and Norgaard’s acquisition provides depth in a crucial area of the pitch.

At £10m his signing is a steal and allows Berta to use his budget on attacking reinforcements. Arteta wants Viktor Gyokeres ready for pre-season.

Norgaard will provide cover for Zubimendi during his first season in English football and also allows Declan Rice to flourish in his more advanced role.

It may not be the marquee signing of the summer from the Gunners but Christian Norgaard could prove to be the smartest come the end of the season.
