Arsenal outcast handed £20m transfer exit route but Newcastle United hold deciding factor

Arsenal have let several first-team stars leave this summer, but one player on the fringes still remains.

Emile Smith Rowe has joined Fulham, Fabio Vieira returned to FC Porto on loan, and Aaron Ramsdale has joined Southampton.

Reiss Nelson was another player who looked on the verge of an exit, having started just one Premier League game last season, but with just a few hours left in the transfer window, time is running out to secure a move.

Arsenal are yet to bring in another attacker in the transfer window despite links to Raheem Sterling, and it is claimed that Mikel Arteta will be happy with his options.

This means that Nelson may be unlikely to leave, but things can change very quickly, and one transfer deal elsewhere could lead to his exit.

Nottingham Forest eye up Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson

TEAMtalk have now reported that Newcastle’s interest in Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga could see Forest turn to Nelson in the final hours of the window.

Newcastle have had an offer of around £35m for Elanga rejected, with Forest refusing to entertain a sale unless they can find a replacement, but Nelson is being eyed up as a potential option.

Arsenal have reportedly set an asking price of £20m for Nelson, but a deal will only happen in the event that Elanga joins Newcastle, putting the ball in their court.

Arsenal cannot afford to sell Reiss Nelson today

A move did not materialise for Nelson throughout the window whilst Arsenal were open to a sale, but they cannot afford to let him go now unless a replacement comes in.

With Nketiah and Vieira leaving, Nelson is now the main backup for Bukayo Saka on the right wing, with Gabriel Jesus currently injured.

Unless Arsenal bring in a new attacker such as Sterling, they will need Nelson for depth up front, even if a sale would be profitable, and the likeliest outcome is that the Hale End graduate stays at the club.
