Arsenal are exploring a number of avenues this summer transfer window in a bid to strengthen their squad.

In terms of adding talent in wide areas Nico Williams and Rodrygo has been mooted alongside Arsenal’s interest in Kaoru Mitoma and former striker Danny Welbeck has already told Mikel Arteta why the Brighton man is the one for the Gunners.

Danny Welbeck praise for Kaoru Mitoma

As per beIN Sports, Welbeck told Brighton’s official website back in August 2024 that Mitoma was a ‘special’ talent.

Welbeck stated: “He is a special talent and we all know the ability he’s got.

“In one v ones there’s not many better in the Premier League and it’s great to have him back and adding to the firepower we’ve got.”

Mitoma enjoyed another excellent campaign for Brighton this season, producing 11 goals and four assists in his 38 appearances in all competitions.

Kaoru Mitoma has what Arsenal lack in their squad

Arsenal struggled this season to break down teams who defended deep and made it difficult to find space in and around the penalty area.

The likes of Gabriel Martinelli prefer space to run into, whilst Leandro Trossard lacks that pace to get away from defenders.

Ian Wright said Mitoma ‘roasted’ Ben White back in 2023 and the Japanese international has proven during his time in England that he can exploit weaknesses in opposition defences, even from a standing start.

Should the Gunners complete a deal for Mitoma, he would be a player that already knows the rigours of the Premier League and could provide that ‘X-factor’ needed in tight games.
