Arsenal can now fully reflect on an underwhelming campaign.
Mikel Arteta’s side signed off the season with a 2-1 victory over Southampton to claim second place in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s third consecutive runners-up place has proved frustrating for everyone associated with the club and now Andrea Berta is tasked with delivering reinforcements this summer transfer window.
Berta is in talks with Benjamin Sesko as he steps up his pursuit of a striker but Ian Wright once claimed another Gunners transfer target ‘roasted’ current defender Ben White during a league game.

Karou Mitoma once ‘roasted’ Ben White in Premier League clash
Arsenal are interested in Kaoru Mitoma as the Brighton winger enjoyed another impressive campaign with the Seagulls.
Mitoma has been a joy to watch in the Premier League for several seasons now with his agility and inventiveness the stand-out attributes.
These were on display more than ever back in May 2023 as his Brighton side beat Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium to well and truly end any faint title hopes.
As per Football365, Wright was impressed with Mitoma’s display that day and told Premier League productions that the Japanese international ‘roasted’ Gunners right back White that day.
Wright stated: “”The way Brighton set up, they wanted Arsenal to press them to go long, and when Arsenal were stretched they passed it through.
“[Kaoru] Mitoma gave Ben White as big a roasting as I’ve seen for a long time. And this is a player [White] who’s been playing well this season.”
How Kaoru Mitoma compares to Gabriel Martinelli this season
Arsenal’s interest in Rodrygo further highlights the club’s priority to bring in a winger this summer and there are doubts over Gabriel Martinelli’s future.
Berta is expected to be busy this summer in moulding an Arsenal squad capable of competing on all four fronts but with that, there is expected to be some difficult departures for fans to deal with.
| Key attacking metrics this season | Martinelli | Mitoma |
| Goals | 8 | 10 |
| Progressive carries | 4.86 | 5.05 |
| Progressive passes | 2.04 | 3.08 |
| Shots on target | 43.6% | 47.4% |
| Goal-creating actions | 0.27 | 0.35 |
Described as ‘fantastic’ by former boss Roberto De Zerbi as per Sussex Live, Mitoma has outperformed Martinelli in a number of key attacking metrics this season.
He could replace the Brazilian in Arteta’s plans should a deal be struck between Brighton and Arsenal, especially given Leandro Trossard’s contract talks.
It is set to be a summer of change at the Emirates as the Gunners finally look to end their trophy drought that has loomed over the club since 2020.
