Arsenal plans are bubbling away in the background ahead of a busy summer transfer window both for incomings and departures from the club.

Arsenal are still harbouring hopes of making the current campaign a successful one as they prepare for the crunch Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

However, following the appointment of Andrea Berta as the club’s new sporting director, Mikel Arteta will also be looking ahead to building his squad for next season.

Berta is a fan of Viktor Gyokeres and the Swedish international could be part of the incomings expected at the Emirates Stadium but journalist David Ornstein has also provided an update on potential departures.

David Ornstein provides Arsenal transfer update on Tommy Setford

Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast, Ornstein has provided an update on Arsenal’s plans regarding their goalkeeper position come the summer.

Neto is expected to return to Bournemouth following his loan spell at the Gunners and it seems the position will be one of interest to Arteta.

Ornstein stated: “They are going to need one or two goalkeepers. With Neto returning to Bournemouth and maybe Setford going out on loan.”

Tommy Setford has featured on the bench in a number of Premier League games this season and made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup victory over Preston in October 2024.

The 19-year-old could be set for a loan move next season in order to gain some valuable senior experience and this would open the possibility for one or two additions to give competition to David Raya.

Arsenal hold interest in Joan Garcia

Joan Garcia is open to Arsenal having attracted interest from European giants such as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

The 22-year-old Spanish keeper has impressed for Espanyol this season and Arteta is keen on bringing him to London to compete with Raya for the number one spot next campaign.

Garcia still has a way to go to match Raya in a number of key metrics this season but at such a young age, he has room for development and would learn a lot from his compatriot.

Alexei Rojas is set for an Arsenal first-team promotion next campaign and could become the third keeper in Arteta’s plans, meaning that Setford can go and gain experience elsewhere.
