Arsenal fans are hoping that their club will be active in the January transfer window.
The Gunners did a decent job last summer by bringing in five players – David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino on permanent deals and Raheem Sterling and Neto on loans.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side have had a ton of injury issues, and the need for reinforcements in the winter window is really high now.
However, Arsenal may not be able to make a big signing next month because of one reason.
Fabrizio Romano reveals Arsenal’s problem in the January transfer window
Arsenal often try to stay away from making moves in January.
The Gunners prefer to do most of their business in the summer, and we’re sure the original plan would’ve been the same this time as well.
Injuries could change things at Arsenal now. Bukayo Saka is out for a while due to a hamstring injury, while the Gunners’ need for a new striker has once again been evident as well.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal could still do something in January, but he believes fans’ ‘dream’ signings like Viktor Gyokeres are unlikely.
That’s because Arsenal don’t have an active sporting director – Edu resigned from his role in November this year.
Romano said on the Men in Blazers podcast: “There is a possibility that Arsenal can do something in January. But, I can guarantee you that as of today, they have not decided whether they are going to invest big money or not.
“Remember that Arsenal have a sporting director but he’s leaving the club – Edu. They have Jason Ayto who can help in this process, but usually, before you invest big money on a number nine, you want to have a structure in place.
“New sporting director – Arsenal really appreciate Roberto Olabe, who did a great job at Real Sociedad. He’s leaving the club and he could be a strong candidate to be the new Arsenal director.
“I think Arsenal could do something, but in terms of big names, big stars – I know many people for example dream about Viktor Gyokeres, the fantastic Sporting striker – I think this kind of names are more for the summer rather than the January transfer window.”

Roberto Olabe could help Arsenal make two big signings
Romano reported earlier in December that Olabe is Arsenal’s top target for the sporting director job.
The 57-year-old has already announced that he will be leaving Real Sociedad at the end of this season, and we think he would be a great option to replace Edu.
If Arsenal do get Olabe, he could help the Gunners sign two players – Alexander Isak and Martin Zubimendi.
Olabe was the one who bought Isak to Real Sociedad in 2019, and that relationship could help convince the Swede to move to the Emirates.
Zubimendi, who Romano says is Arsenal’s dream target, is another one Olabe knows very well – he convinced the midfielder to reject Liverpool and stay at Sociedad last summer.
He could finally be the man to convince the midfielder to move to the Premier League and join Arsenal.
