Arsenal’s summer transfer window has got off to a slow start.
With the World Cup approaching its final stages, hopefully that will be about to change.
The Premier League champions are set to sign goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer, in what will be Arsenal’s first new incoming.
On the outgoing front, Leandro Trossard looks poised to leave after a €20million deal with Besiktas was struck.
👀 How much is Leandro Trossard worth to Arsenal? Should the Gunners be selling him at all?!
Arsenal accepted that offer with a plan in place. Last summer, they were linked with several top wingers but could not move because neither Trossard nor Gabriel Martinelli could be sold. That obstacle has now been removed.
Martinelli’s future still remains uncertain, as it is not yet clear whether Arsenal want to sell both.
But what is clear is that Arsenal are looking to strengthen the left side of their attack, and now a winger signing is bound to happen.
Fabrizio Romano is certain Arsenal will sign a left winger
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano outlined that he has no doubt the Gunners will now sign a winger.
“Don’t forget about Arsenal for the winger because Arsenal will sign an important winger in this summer transfer window — that’s for sure,” he said.
“It’s not in doubt and it’s not based on who is going or who is staying. In any case, Arsenal will sign a top winger.”
Morgan Rogers is understood to be Mikel Arteta’s primary target, and Arsenal are now preparing to launch an official bid.
However, Aston Villa have set an asking price above the £116million Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson, reflecting just how broken the market has become.
PSG’s Bradley Barcola is the alternative target should the Rogers pursuit stall, with the Frenchman understood to be open to a move to the Emirates.
🤔 PICK ONE: Would you rather Arsenal signed Bradley Barcola or Morgan Rogers this summer?
Christos Tzolis had been explored as a more affordable option earlier in the window but that avenue appears to have gone quiet. That might be one that Arsenal revisit in the event Martinelli leaves.
The Gunners also want to sign a midfielder, with Bruno Guimaraes the firm priority.
Arsenal are confident a bid of around £65million can get the deal done despite Newcastle’s insistence he is not for sale.
