The summer transfer window is still a few months away, but Arsenal are already about to be dealt a big blow.
The Gunners have a lot of work to do this summer.
A new striker is a priority, as is a world-class winger. Arsenal need midfield reinforcements too as both Thomas Partey and Jorginho could leave the club.
The North Londoners have been linked with moves to sign several players in the above positions, but there is bad news regarding one of them now.
Joshua Kimmich update after Arsenal hold talks
Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich’s future has been up in the air for a while now.
The Germany international is a ‘world-class‘ player, and he has been delivering at the highest level in the Bundesliga for many years now.
In January, Kimmich entered the final six months of his Bayern contract, and he has been linked with moves to several big clubs since.
Arsenal Insider exclusively revealed that Arsenal have held talks with Kimmich over a move in the upcoming summer transfer window, as have other clubs.
But, it looks like the versatile German has decided to extend his stay at Bayern Munich.
Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed on X on Thursday: “BREAKING | Total verbal agreement between FC Bayern and Joshua Kimmich on a new contract until 2029!
“Green light from the entire Bayern board. Final paperwork is in progress. Contracts are set to be signed this week, with the announcement planned soon.
“Kimmich will extend his contract following today’s new discussions. The 30-year-old leader considered an offer from #PSG, but his main focus was always on extending his contract.”
Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that a ‘new deal is at the final stages’ for Kimmich at Bayern.
Arsenal should sign rival Premier League midfielder instead of Kimmich
Kimmich on a free transfer would’ve been a great signing for Arsenal.
The German is hugely versatile, has a ton of experience under his belt and he would’ve brought in a winning mentality to the Emirates.
However, missing out on Kimmich is not too big a blow for Arsenal. He is 30 years old already, and the Gunners are better off signing someone much younger.
Martin Zubimendi is likely to move to Arsenal this summer, but along with him, we think Mikel Arteta should make a move for Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace.
The Englishman has a massive future ahead of him, and he has the potential to become an absolute star in the middle of the park in the coming years.
