Arsenal have held talks with Joshua Kimmich over a possible switch to the club on a free transfer this summer, Arsenal Insider understands.

The midfielder is nearing the end of his contract at Bayern Munich, opening up the chance for a possible free transfer this summer.

As of January, the German international has been free to discuss pre-contract terms with clubs outside of Germany that would allow him to make a switch.

With Joshua Kimmich a real transfer opportunity for Arsenal, it’s no surprise to see them in the conversation over a deal.

There has been an update regarding a switch to the Emirates Stadium, as well as rivals of the Gunners who are also linked.

Arsenal hold talks over Joshua Kimmich transfer as Liverpool step away

Arsenal are looking to change their midfield ranks up again this summer, with Jorginho and Thomas Partey facing an exit at the end of their contracts.

While Martin Zubimendi is one option to join the Gunners, there have also been plenty of links surrounding Joshua Kimmich.

The German international has been rumoured with many clubs though, spanning from rivals Manchester City and Liverpool all the way to Barcelona and PSG.

While a stay at Bayern Munich is still possible, it seems as though an exit has a real chance of happening this summer.

Speaking to TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey about the situation, he said: “He’s yet to commit either way. Obviously, Bayern withdrew their first offer, the board are still in talks but he’s considering his options.

“Arsenal are one of them. Whether Arsenal are willing to give him what he wants, we don’t have that confirmed but they have held talks.

“Pep Guardiola would like to take him to Manchester City, Hansi Flick to Barcelona, it’s a pretty awkward scenario but Liverpool look like they’re stepping away.

“I’m not sure whether clubs are buying that he’s going to leave Bayern but he is genuinely considering other options.”

It certainly suggests an open race to land Joshua Kimmich this summer, with a dwindling contract counting down to his release as a free agent.

Joshua Kimmich move would prove Arsenal title intent

Arsenal have been building a promising squad for some time now, but it has reached a point where titles and silverware are now expected to follow.

In years past, the Gunners have often looked towards landing younger players who have plenty of potential to grow further.

However, with Kimmich being such a high-profile player in his peak years, any move would go against that idea.

With that said though, it would in itself show a sign of intent from Arsenal to land a world-class option who can win titles now.

It remains to be seen whether a deal will be done, but it could be an important one for the Gunners in the months ahead.
