Former scout convinced Arsenal won’t act on Ebereche Eze transfer interest until he’s proven one thing

Arsenal have shown an interest in Eberechi Eze in the past.

Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze has attracted plenty of attention from top Premier League clubs. 

Arsenal are amongst the midfielder’s admirers. However, as yet, no side has made a concerted effort to prise the England international away from Selhurst Park.

Arsenal were linked with Eze during the recent summer transfer window, but when it came to bolstering his midfield contingent, Mikel Arteta ultimately opted to invest in signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad. 

Meanwhile, Eze has continued to impress for the Eagles. Already this season he has scored three goals and provided one assist.

However, the North London club still want to see more from the 26-year-old before they will be convinced to make an offer for his services.

Former scout lifts lid on Arsenal stance on Eberechi Eze

Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown has told Caught Offside that Arsenal are not alone in keeping tabs on Eze, with Liverpool and Manchester City both holding an even more long-standing interest in the player than the Gunners.

However, according to Brown: “These big clubs are looking to see if the midfielder can improve his performances for Palace before they make a move for his signature.”

It has to be assumed that the 9-cap England international will be keen to take the next step in his career, competing for Premier League titles and testing himself in the Champions League.

Clearly, though, if he is to ever get that chance then he has some doubters to convince first. He may be a talismanic figure at Crystal Palace, but Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool are still waiting for him to reach another level.

Do Arsenal need Eze when they have Ethan Nwaneri?

With Emile Smith Rowe having left the Emirates Stadium, and Fabio Vieira out on loan, there is certainly a case to be made that there is room in Arteta’s squad for another playmaker.

However, Hale End academy wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri is currently well on his way to nailing down that spot as his own. Nwaneri has already impressed Arsenal fans this season, who will all be desperate to see the teenager make the grade and live up to his potential. 

Signing Eze would certainly put another obstacle in Nwaneri’s way, and could even ruin his chances of establishing himself at Arsenal altogether.
