Talks are underway between Arsenal and Chelsea over the transfer of Noni Madueke.

It’s no longer a phenomenon for Arsenal to sign a player from their London rivals; in fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Arsenal have signed nine players from Chelsea, with the majority coming in Mikel Arteta’s reign.

The figure could rise once again this summer, as after completing the transfer of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Madueke is on Andrea Berta’s radar.

Arsenal want a discounted price from Chelsea for Noni Madueke

After Arsenal agreed personal terms with Madueke, it was confirmed that Berta has taken the next steps towards signing the 23-year-old.

David Ornstein revealed that the Gunners are now in talks with Chelsea for Madueke, who is contracted in West London until 2030.

Tying players down to large contracts is working in the Blues’ favour as Chelsea have demanded over £50m for Madueke, a price that Arsenal do not want to pay.

Following on from the revelation of contact being made, journalist Ben Jacobs explained the ‘gulf’ between the two clubs’ valuation of the player.

“Chelsea want a £55m+ package, citing Anthony Elanga’s Newcastle move. Understand Arsenal will try for £40m-£45m.

“Gulf in valuation, but clubs have a strong relationship. No bid as of this morning as clubs are discussing numbers.”

Jacobs explained that Arsenal are hoping to strike a deal with their rivals on a transfer with a £10m discount, as Chelsea are inspired by other moves in the Premier League.

Andrea Berta can make a statement with Madueke bargain

There’s a problem in that the Blues aren’t a club that will offer discounts to buyers.

It’s why Chelsea have the room for transfers that they do, being a side fuelled by churning out profits.

Berta could now show what he’s made of in the Premier League market by doing what so very few do: get a bargain from Stamford Bridge.

Ironically, Arsenal’s sporting director has already got the better of the Blues this summer, signing Kepa for a mere £5m.

Paying £45m for Madueke still seems rather shocking, but in an inflated market, the figures add up.

Can Berta get his way and take advantage of already striking personal terms with Madueke? Only time will tell.
