Leicester City ‘confident’ of signing Reiss Nelson, but one factor will annoy every Arsenal fan

Newly promoted Leicester City have now joined the race to sign Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson this summer.

Arsenal are willing to let Reiss Nelson leave the Emirates Stadium.

The attacker clearly does not feature prominently in Mikel Arteta’s plans. The Hale End academy graduate was only afforded one Premier League start last season.

At this stage in his career, the 24-year-old needs to be playing regular football. It is now obvious that he won’t be granted that game time in North London, so needs to seek pastures new for the sake of his own career.

West Ham United did show an interest in Nelson, but a formal offer is yet to arrive from the East London outfit.

Meanwhile, Leicester City, fresh off of their title-winning campaign in the Championship last time out, have now joined the race for the winger’s signature.

Leicester want Reiss Nelson transfer on terms that’ll frustrate Arsenal

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, reporting on X: “Leicester City open talks with Arsenal for Reiss Nelson. Loan deal with obligation to buy, in talks over financial terms with Arsenal.

“Leicester, confident they can persuade Nelson if the clubs come to terms as he previously worked with Steve Cooper.”

Steve Cooper was working with the England youth teams whilst Nelson was rising through the age ranks at international level, so will know all about the player’s quality.

Joining the Foxes would make a great deal of sense for Nelson too, as he would stand a great chance of establishing himself as a regular starter for the Midlands outfit.

However, Arsenal fans may well have a problem with how this proposed deal is set to be structured.

Although Leicester City are set to sign Nelson on loan with an obligation to buy, guaranteeing that the Gunners will eventually receive a fee for the player, the fact that he is leaving on a temporary basis initially means that Arsenal will have to wait to get paid for his services.

Marseille are trying to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal on a similarly structured deal. This kind of arrangement is clearly becoming a trend, and sporting director Edu needs to get a grip on the situation and ensure that Arsenal start receiving some ups front fees.
