Pedro Neto claim emerges as Arsenal told ‘expensive’ complications of January deal

Arsenal have been linked with a January move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto, but a deal could prove to be complicated.

The 23-year-old is on Mikel Arteta’s radar, with the Spaniard wanting to add more depth on the wings, but signing him in the winter window will not be an easy task.

Arsenal spent heavily in the summer transfer window, bringing in Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz and David Raya for an outlay of over £200m, but they will not be able to continue such a high rate of spending in January.

Pedro Neto may be too expensive

Speaking on Charles Watts’ Inside Arsenal YouTube Channel, CBS journalist James Benge revealed that as it stands, there has been no movement on any deal for Neto, and that Arsenal will face financial issues should they attempt a move.

“I’m sure Arsenal would go into this if their long-standing interest crystalises into a January offer, and I have to say, I’ve not been told anything is imminent,” he stated.

“From what I understand of the financials, it would certainly involve some pretty detailed conversations with ownership about how you can finance that deal. Because Arsenal ran into complications financing the signing of David Raya. They managed to do it, but it was something they had to consider.

“Mid-season signing Pedro Neto, very expensive.”

Given that Arsenal did not make too many major sales, with Folarin Balogun and Granit Xhaka the biggest departures, spending so heavily in the summer was always likely to impact the potential to do business in January.

Raya joined on loan from Brentford to avoid Financial Fair Play issues, and this may be a sign that Arsenal might be hamstrung in the market until next season.

Spending so much comes with risks, and with Kai Havertz currently disappointing since his £65m move from Chelsea, and Jurrien Timber picking up a long-term injury, as it stands, Arsenal are not seeing their investment pay off, and may have to find a different solution to Neto in January.
