Ranking all eight Arsenal summer transfer signings from Viktor Gyokeres to Eberechi Eze

The summer transfer window is now officially closed, and it was certainly a busy one for Arsenal.

In a first glimpse of what Andrea Berta can do as sporting director, he brought in eight players with a spend of roughly £250 million.

It saw Arsenal take to the market in an attempt to improve on every area of the squad possible, one that was successful.

While it remains to be seen just how good this window has been in retrospect, the early rankings are in for what has been a chaotic few months.

So with that said, here’s a look at the rankings for this summer’s business, scaled from one to five, five being the best option and one being the worst.

Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal’s move for Viktor Gyokeres ticks all of the boxes for a striker that they wanted on the face of it, having been a success at Sporting CP.

It remains to be seen how well that will translate to the Premier League, but the relatively low fee compared to other options could prove to be a bargain, while it also doesn’t lock the Gunners into keeping him if he does struggle.

Gyokeres has a good injury record, too, meaning he is durable for the upcoming season.

The only reason it isn’t a five-out-of-five signing is that he isn’t Alexander Isak, and there is no guarantee that he will continue his scoring feats in England.

Cristhian Mosquera

Cristhian Mosquera could be the most underrated Arsenal signing this summer, given the bargain fee he joined for.

The Gunners paid just £13 million for the defender from Valencia, and he has already looked like an accomplished option at the back.

Given the need for cover across the defensive ranks in case of injury, Mosquera already looks like a great addition for Arsenal.

Eberechi Eze

Arsenal hijacked Tottenham’s move for Eberechi Eze, sealing one of the most memorable transfers of the summer.

It has all the ingredients to be an amazing switch, with that added rivalry before it, mixed with the fact that he is a boyhood fan.

There may be only slight concerns surrounding the fee, worth up to £67.5 million, and whether he will be given the freedom from Mikel Arteta to do what he does best.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Berta moved quickly to bolster the goalkeeper ranks, signing Kepa Arrizabalaga for a minimal fee of £5 million.

The Spaniard is unlikely to play much, but it solves an issue they faced with landing Neto on loan last season, who has cup-tied for the Carabao Cup, leaving the side short at points.

Christian Norgaard

Signed as another depth option, Christian Norgaard joined from Brentford in a deal that brings an experienced operator to the club.

The Danish international is another who is unlikely to play much, but his impact may be felt more behind the scenes.

Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal worked for months to get a deal for Martin Zubimendi over the line, paying £51 million to sign him from Real Sociedad.

The Spaniard plays a very specific role at the base of the midfield, often dictating the tempo of the match with neat passing and ways of finding space.

Questions will remain surrounding how well he can adjust to the Premier League, but he could be the heartbeat of the team soon enough.

Noni Madueke

While many Arsenal fans were unsure of the move, Noni Madueke could prove them all wrong with some impressive displays for the side.

It was something of an expensive deal, coming in at roughly £52 million with add-ons factored into the equation.

If he ends up playing plenty of games on the left or right flank and has some important contributions along the way, that could end up looking like a bargain.

Madueke has all the potential to be a top player, but it’s unclear just how far he can go at Arsenal with the wealth of attacking options alongside him.

Piero Hincapie

Arsenal signed Piero Hincapie on deadline day, landing him from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan deal.

That deal has a £45 million buy option, which the Gunners can take up over the next year.

While he has plenty of experience for a 23-year-old, with potential to grow further, it’s tough to see exactly where he fits in.

At left centre-back, he is competing with Gabriel Magalhaes, while Riccardo Calafiori can cover there and left-back.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is another left-back option, meaning there is plenty of competition ahead of him.

With an eventual fee worth £45 million, it’s difficult to see exactly how this could go for Hincapie, but it could end up being a top addition.
