All eyes will be on whether Arsenal can recruit a new striker in the summer transfer window, with one target set to be available.

The January transfer window was a failure for Arsenal, as was the summer market, as Mikel Arteta failed to land an additional goalscoring presence.

Amid Arsenal’s injury crisis throughout the season, it’s become more and more clear that attacking reinforcements are imperative in the summer.

Stan Kroenke has room to spend in the transfer window, which is much-needed as the Gunners have several attackers on their radar already.

One player who could be on Arteta’s radar heading into the summer is Matheus Cunha, who was of interest at the Emirates in January.

Arsenal reportedly made contact with Cunha during the winter window, which saw the Brazilian stall his contract talks at Wolves.

While the 25-year-old did extend his deal at Molineux, there’s an understanding that Cunha will leave in the summer, which Arsenal must keep an eye on.

Following strong transfer interest in January, Cunha was asked about how his future at Wolves looked before he put pen to paper on a new deal.

“I never think about leaving, honestly. I know I have a lot of things to do already and I always said that this was the club that gave me the chance to come back,” Cunha said to BBC

“They [Wolves] opened the door for me and I always felt I wanted to give back everything so to leave in this type of situation is hard. I am so happy to be here. I hope to continue doing good things.”

The forward is certainly giving back to Vitor Pereira’s squad, having contributed to 17 goals in all competitions in 2024/25 for the Old Gold.

Cunha is one to watch in the summer

While the former Atletico Madrid forward himself insisted that he’s happy at Wolves, that doesn’t rule out the potential for a transfer in the summer.

Cunha has a release clause of £62.5m in his contract, which allows clubs to purchase the in-form goalscorer for a fixed price if personal terms can be agreed.

Given the form that the Brazilian is in, it’s almost certain that a club will be interested in signing the Wolves star in the summer, with Arsenal having the potential to be in the mix.

As well as the player’s release clause, Cunha’s agent was making noise in January amid the Gunners’ interest in his client surfacing, which will surely impact his transfer status at the end of the season.

An established Premier League forward at just 25 years old, Cunha would be a strong capture for Arsenal, making his movement something to track.
