Arsenal fans still do not have their centre forward despite the club’s busy start to the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have completed four signings already this window, including Noni Madueke and Martin Zubimendi but still that elusive number nine remains out of their grasp.

Viktor Gyokeres is desperate to join Arsenal but there is still a stalemate over negotiations involving his add-ons after an initial €63.5m fee was agreed.

Alexander Isak reportedly wants a move away from Newcastle and with the Swede being Mikel Arteta’s dream centre forward many are wondering why the Gunners are not at the front of the queue. The reason has now been revealed.

Arsenal have PSR capabilities to sign Alexander Isak

According to The Independent, Arsenal do have the capability to sign Isak within the restrictions of PSR but owner Stan Kroenke will not be drawn into overspending this summer.

The Gunners are not expected to turn their attentions to Isak and will instead focus on ironing out a deal for Gyokeres. However, the reason could be about to really frustrate supporters.

The report claims: “Arsenal don’t currently have the budget to go for Isak. This is, after all, a club who have been haggling over differences of £5m in add-ons for Gyokeres. Are we really to expect they suddenly jump £70m more?

“The greater intrigue is that Arsenal do have the PSR headroom. Many just put this down to the ownership’s willingness to spend, and how much funds are released.

The Kroenkes do prefer their club to be fully responsible, with no risk in this regard. Other sources would describe that as overt conservatism, and even frugality, when the club has a huge chance to do something historic.

“Their wage bill has – up until recently – been around £60m less than even Liverpool’s, let alone City.”

Mikel Arteta already convinced Stan Kroenke to increase the budget at Arsenal this summer

The same report also claims that Arteta himself managed to persuade Kroenke to increase the transfer budget this summer in order for the club’s progression to continue.

Arsenal have a reported £200m budget this summer but that is not expected to increase despite having the room to do so under PSR regulations.

This is known to have frustrated some figures inside the club, especially given the spending power of Liverpool and Manchester City already this window.

Arteta is under pressure to deliver a trophy this season and with his rivals for the title strengthening in all areas, he must ensure the same quality is coming through the door at the Emirates.
