Jakub Kiwior has been linked with an Arsenal exit numerous times throughout this summer transfer window.

There has been a great deal of uncertainty surrounding Jakub Kiwior’s future at Arsenal recently.

Kiwior was one of four Arsenal players tipped to leave the Emirates Stadium before the end of the summer transfer window.

It is easy to see why the Poland international might be keen to move on from North London.

The defender has never been able to establish himself as a regular starter on a long-term basis since his arrival from Spezia in the winter transfer window of 2023.

What’s more, whilst he can play at left-back, his preferred position is in the heart of the defence. However, the 24-year-old stands no chance of leapfrogging either Gabriel Magalhaes or William Saliba in the pecking order in this part of the pitch.

Kiwior also faces more competition than ever before when it comes to getting game time at left-back. He now has to contend with the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, and Takehiro Tomiyasu all also vying for minutes in that role.

Kiwior was omitted from the Arsenal squad for the Gunners’ Premier League opener this season, in a move that seemed to confirm his status as being surplus to requirements. However, there have since been further twists in the tale concerning his future at the club.

Fabrizio Romano explains Jakub Kiwior decision at Arsenal

Arsenal recently told Kiwior that he is not for sale. What’s more, the player himself appears to be satisfied with this outcome.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, writing in his Daily Briefing, has now provided an insight as to why the 26-cap Poland international has not opted to push for an exit route this summer.

The journalist stated: “Arsenal have told Jakub Kiwior and his agents two days ago that he has to stay as he’s going to be an important player for them this season.

“Kiwior was never desperate to leave – he rejected approaches from Premier League and he was only open to returning to Italy, but it was never close.”

Will Kiwior regret his decision to stay at Arsenal?

Mikel Arteta is clearly determined to protect and preserve the strength in depth currently available to him in his defensive contingent.

However, it is hard to see how Kiwior will get enough game time to satisfy himself in the current circumstances, and he would clearly be tempted by a return to Serie A were the opportunity to arise.

Italian clubs have shown interest in Kiwior before, so there is every chance that such links will re-emerge in the future.

If he is still on the fringes of the Arsenal squad come the turn of the year then he could well press more firmly for a departure in the January transfer window.
